(September 13th) This is the time of the year when things tend to get a little confused in people’s minds, especially the fans and some in the front office, as to what we should be doing where our future is concerned. Of course, we have some good young players in Nigun; Minami is having a very good year and Takehara is starting to hit a little better.

And the question would be whether to bring them to the Ichigun or to have them continue playing in the Nigun. And at this time, as the Nigun is fighting for a championship, their games are important even though those games are not played in big stadiums with big crowds. I think that the experience of playing in those pressurized games is good for these players and their development, and important for their future.

If in fact the Nigun was not playing important games that would mean winning or losing the championship, I would have as many young players here playing and getting as much experience at this level as possible. But they have their own mission right now that they must accomplish.

It was a tough decision as to whether to keep them playing where they are and being with the Nigun team that has a good fighting spirit or to bring them into a situation where the motivation is a little less than it should be by some of the surrounding players. So, I decided to keep them there as long as they are playing important games in the Nigun. Mind you, I’ll bring them to the Ichigun as soon as I can.

The future is still very bright as many young players did well in the Ichigun. Also, we are trying to defend the Nigun championship for 2006.

This was just a little explanation as to the decisions that I have to make.

     Hi Bobby !

    (Hi Bobby!
I am not satisfied with this year’s result but I am happy about the fact that I was able to see the growth of the young players. And because of that, I am already looking forward to what is going to happen in the future. I have watched 28 games at the stadium this year and I was lucky enough to see all sorts of “first timers” of the young players; Nemoto-sensyu’s first hit, Aono-sensyu’s homerun, and pitcher Naruse’s first shutout. And I was convinced that the future is bright for the Marines as they will be the leading players. I can only hope that you will still be there as their manager when that happens.)

    (Thank you for explaining.

I actually had a different thing in my mind for how Nigun is supposed to be. I simply thought Nigun is where the players learn and develop their skills until they are ready to play at Ichigun level. Therefore, I thought that the Nigun players are just not ready yet to play in Ichigun.)

(Konbanwa. I’d like to apologize for criticizing about which players to use in my previous comment as I had no idea what you are thinking about.
But I’d like to ask you to give more opportunities for the mid-aged players in Nigun as well. Aren’t there some players that you haven’t really seen yet, right?)

(We really appreciate you answering the questions that we have on this blog. I am really glad to hear that Minami-sensyu is doing well in the Marines since I’m one of the Yokohama fans.)

    (Otsukaresama-desu.
I read your previous entry and there is something that I’d like to ask you and please allow me to do so.
I understand that you are looking at things from a broad perspective. And I bet that there are few people in the front office who are concerned about the players much as you are.
I just want to remind you that there are a lot of players outside of famous high schools or colleges that have the potential to succeed.
For instance, there are some players from the professional school for sports who played in the all-star game in America at the rookie level. And there are also some players that are not considered to be eligible to take a test because they don’t have 4 years degree.
I understand that you are busy but I’d appreciate if you would take my comment into consideration and take different approach when look for future players.)

    (Valentine Kantoku, Konnichiwa.

I was able to understand how you came to the decisions that you made after reading this entry.
We only have a couple of games left. I can’t wait to see what kind of players the Marines will be getting at this year’s draft.

And I also look forward to seeing the team making great strides in next season.)

I have a question for you, Bobby. How come you don’t give Takehara-sensyu much chance as you do to other players? Takehara-sensyu is a valuable power hitter among the players in Lotte. We should have him play more often and give more opportunities to him so that he can get more experience.

    (Bobby-san, Konbanwa.

It used to be the case that the players in Nigun were staying in the minor league since they were not doing well or they hadn’t reached to Ichigun level. However, they are more exposed to media nowadays as their games are shown more frequently on TV. In addition, they are trying to have Japanese series for Nigun and All-Star Games for Nigun.
Thus, I understood what you exactly meant.

The Marines showed their true strength and won tonight’s game against Fighters with Sayonara.
Finally, tomorrow will be the last home game for the Marines. And it is also the last game for Norozumi-sensyu.
Please do your best so that there won’t be any regrets.

On a final note, thank you for making a decision on staying in the Marines for next season as a manager.)

    Hi Bobby,

I just wanted to drop you a line and say that you bring so much joy and passion to the game of baseball and that you are a great asset and ambassador to Japanese baseball. Your contributions go way beyond winning the championship last season and what you’ve been able to do with your team. It’s been a pleasure to see the difference you’ve been making. Keep up the great work! I am a fan of Bobby Valentine!

    Nate
