（９月１日） 先日もお話していたオフデーについての続きですが、世界バスケットボール選手権大会（左の写真はその時の写真です）の試合を見に行っただけでなく、我がマリーンズのスカウトチームとの大きなミーティングにも出席したんです。高校から大学、そして実業団のチームまで、それぞれのリーグで活躍している全ての選手について本当に良く分析しているなといつも感心しています。ここで僕達のチームがどういった過程を経て、選手を選出しているかちょっとだけご説明しますネ。まず最初のステップとして、それぞれの選手についての映像やレポートをまとめます。そして、その資料を見ながら慎重にそれぞれの選手についての分析をします。それが終わると、どのプレイヤーを選手候補にすべきかを話し合います。そしてこの段階で、どの選手がプロとしての素質・能力を持っているかということを判断していきます。
日本全土にある数多くの球場に、実際に足を運んでそれぞれの試合を見てまわるのですから大変なお仕事だと思います。それだけでなく、出席しなければいけない会議もたくさんあるのですからね。
さて、スカウトする選手をどうやって決定するかのお話に戻りますね。現在チーム内では話し合いを重ねた結果選抜した選手候補の最終リストを作成したところです。どの選手を選ぶかという最終段階にきています。僕達が望んでいるような選手としての能力だけではなく、マリーンズという球団組織の中で十分やっていけるような人材を選出できればと思っています。
マリーンズの優秀なスカウトチームのメンバーについてやドラフト制度については、また日を改めてお話したいと思いますので楽しみにしていてくださいネ。

追記：先日も皆さんにご紹介していた、福岡からの応援団リーダーのタナカ・ヤスノリさんとトランペット担当のシラガキ・ユキさんと、先日また楽しいお食事をしたので、その時の写真をご披露しますネ。

今回僕達が行ったレストランは、コバヤシさんという方が経営されている日本風のレストラン、「Chikoba」というお店でした。ヤスノリ君、ユキさんとは１９９５年からのお付き合いになりますが、それ以来彼らとのフレンドシップを大事にしています。
(September 1st) Over the off-days not only was there a basketball game (The photo was taken at the basketball game) to see but I also had an extensive meeting with the scouting department of the Marines. I have to tell you that they do a great job of investigating all the players in each league in high school, college, and also the industrial league.I’d like to tell you how we come to the decision of selecting players to join our team. First, the scouting team puts together videos and reports, which we then go over and scrutinize. As soon as we are done going through these reports and videos, we start discussing the players in which we are interested. When this is done, we begin to designate which players have professional quality.
It’s a lot of hard work as they need to visit numerous ballparks all over in Japan and watch each game. In addition to that they also have a lot of meetings to go to.
We are now down to the final stages where we have accumulated a fine list of prospects that we will list up. And we are hoping that we will be able to pick the ones that not only fit our belief in their abilities but also fit in the Marines organization. That is, we try to determine if they can fill the need we have within the organization.
I will send the list of all the names of the guys and heads scouts and also talk a bit more about the drafting system another time.

The food was great. The name of the restaurant was called “Chikoba” which is owned by a gentleman, Mr. Kobayashi. Yasunori and Yuki have been good friend of mine since 1995 and I treasure their friendship.

今年のドラフトは、個人的には昨年の久保投手のように即戦力になる選手を期待しております。できれば攻守のバランスがとれて、ガッツのある選手がマリーンズには必要だと思います。どんな選手をスカウトし指名するのか楽しみです。とりあえずは９月25日の高校生ドラフトに注目したいと思います。
昨夜は久しぶりの快勝おめでとうございます。雨中の観戦も楽しく安心してみることができました。今シーズンもあと少しです。最後まで頑張ってください。

I personally expect the Marines to select the player that would become an adaptable fighting potential for the team, just like how pitcher Kubo was last year. I think it would be the best if we can get a player who can do well in both offence and defense and also are filled with spirit. The Marines can really use this type of a player. I look forward to seeing which player the Marines will be selecting.
In the meantime, I will wait for the Highschool draft which will be happening on September 25th.
I’d like to congratulate for the tonight’s win which was a win that the team was able to accomplish after a while. I was able to sit back and enjoy the game even in the rain. We have a bit more to go in this season. Please keep up the good work until the end.)

Hello. I am writing this ｃomment to ask you a special request for my best friend’s wedding party. The party is going to be held at the Field Terrace Suite on coming September 18th.
The bride, has turned to a big fan of Marines since I took her to the ballpark to enjoy fantastic games together last season. Of course we were there when Marines won the championship of Asia Series. She has impressed by your personality, and has become a big fan of you too. The groom is…..unfortunately a fan of Buffaloes. But both fathers of this young couple happen to be fans of Marines too!
I hope we can enjoy an exciting game that will make every other guests of the party turn to fans of Marines.

マリーンズは多くの高卒選手が中心選手として活躍していますよね。中には希望獲得枠、FA、トレード等で獲得した選手や外国人選手など、完成された選手を集め、レギュラーの殆どをそんな選手が占めているチームもありますが、高校球児を獲得し、立派な選手として育てるマリーンズの方針が好きです。18歳の若者がマリーンズの中心選手に成長していく姿を見るのがとても楽しみです。そんなことができるのも、スカウトの方々の努力の賜物ですね。選手の現状だけでなく、将来の伸びしろまで見込んでスカウトするには、確かな眼力が必要なんでしょうね。今年も多くの有能な選手がマリーンズに入団するよう、心から願っています。Good luck !

There are a lot of players who joined the Marines right after graduating from high school. And they are the leader players of the team. There are some teams that their main players are from the draft, FA, trading with other teams, foreign players, and also experienced players. But I love the Marines way for how the team tries to develop young high school baseball players. I really enjoy seeing 18-years old young players becoming the leading players of the team. And we can’t forget the fact that the scouting team makes this happen. The scouting team members must know not only how good the player is right now but also the potential that the player has. I really wish that a lot of talented players will be joining the Marines. Good luck!)

僕は４０年来のロッテファン。こんな弱いロッテを見たのはここ数年ぶりです。今までは弱いなりにも上位をいじめるなど、それなりの気概がありました。でも今年はひどすぎて言葉がありません。「素人がなんだ」と言われるかも知れませんが、采配について疑問があります。僕は負けてもほとんどの試合を見ています。なぜ送りバントだったのにヒッティングに変えたりその逆だったり一貫してないんでしょうか？曖昧な采配にしかうつりません。ロッテの選手はそんな柔軟な対応ができるほど技術はないと思います。そしてそのほとんどが失敗して得点ができません。それから大差がついてから小宮山とか高木とか出してますがそのほとんどは傷口を広げています。もう順位が決まって統計的に見てほとんど勝ちが見込めない試合には是非若手を使って欲しいのです。僕たちファンはベテランではなくたとえ打たれても若手の成長を見たいのです。こんな弱いのですからせめて来年につながる野球を見せてくれてもいいのではないでしょうか？
僕的には１軍と２軍を入れ替えてもいいのではないか？と思います。生意気な意見ですいません。
(I have been a fan of the Lotte for about 40 years now. I have to say that I haven’t seen this kind of situation that the team is performing at this low level in the past few years. It used be the way that the team had something to show where you guys were actually the fear towards the best teams in the league even though the team was not doing well. But there is just nothing to say about the Marines this year, it is that bad. Some people might say that “well, you are just an outsider” but I have a doubt in the command that you have taken. I have been watching almost all the games even the ones that we lost. There were times that you changed your command from a sacrifice bunt to a regular hit and vice versa and I wonder why you made that decision. It just seems so random and vague. I don’t think that the players in the Lotte are flexible enough to respond to such changes and they don’t have that type of technique. And for the most cases, those players weren’t able to succeed and we didn’t score any points. Having Komiyama and Takagi coming into the game after the opponent scoring a mass of points didn’t do anything most of the time and instead, the situation got worse. We want you to bring in young players for the games that we know that there is no chance for us to move up in the rakings. We, fans don’t care about seeing experienced players to play. What we really want to see is the growth of the young players even though they might get hammered by the other team. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to start playing in the way that would be more productive for next year?
Personally, I think that it would be a good idea to switch Ichigun and Nigun. Pardon me for my smart-aleck opinions.)
こんにちは。今年は４位が確定してしまい、非常に歯がゆい気持ちで見ています。
どなたかもコメントしてらっしゃいましたが、僕にもバレンタイン監督の采配は助っ人贔屓に見えてしまいます。正直、今の一部の助っ人の成績なら他の日本人選手に同じくらいの試合数を与えればそれ以上の成績を残すことも十分有りうると思います。
せっかく昇格したのにほとんど試合に出ずに二軍に戻っていく若手の選手と、不振や守備走塁でミスをしても今まで使い続けられている助っ人を見てると、何で？という気持ちになります。
別に若手をどんどん使えとかベテランや助っ人は試合に出て欲しくないと言っているわけではないです。ただチャンスの与えられ方に差がありすぎるのではないかと思います。
(Konnichiwa. I have been watching each game feeling chagrined as there won’t be any changes in the rakings and as the team is 4th place.
Someone else already has commented previously but I agree with the person you’re showing favor to helper type of players in the team. To be honest, it is high possible that other Japanese players can do as good as how some of the helper type of players are doing right now if they had same kind of opportunities.
We can’t help but wonder why you keep using those helper types of players when some of the players from Nigun are going back to their old team without having any opportunities to play in the actual games.
I am not saying that we want you to use young players as much as you can or we don’t want to see those helper types of players to play in games. But I think that it is not fair for the other players as they are not getting enough opportunities as the helpers are getting. )

I am commenting on on some of the commentator of this side, whether they are the fan or not, about foreigns player which say the are not usable and pleading you to unuse them now or next season etc…. I am feeling very sorry to them and feeling real irritation and insultation. Don’t forget that they are with us when the Marines won all the titles last year and the Interleague championship this year. I just don’t understand why only these players are to blame though . It is some of rudeness. Please remember, baseball is to be enjoy!!
