(July 26th)

To the Chiba Lotte Marines Family,

From the moment that I agreed to come back to manage the Chiba Lotte Marines 6 years ago, I have always had two major priorities: to do what is best for the Shigemitsu family, who invited me back with enthusiasm, and to do what is best for the Chiba Lotte Marines. For the first 5 years, thanks to the wonderful support of our fans, players, coaches and support staff it was easy to be passionate and committed to my task as manager.

But this season many people around me and I were presented with a very challenging and confusing situation. Lask week Acting Owner Shigemitsu came to my office and I had a chance to speak privately with him one-on-one for the first time since last July. I thanked him for visiting me and apologized for the poor performance of the team. We reassured each other that our friendship remained the same and I felt grateful for it. And most importantly, I came to feel that for me to leave the team at the end of the 2009 season is best for the Shigemitsu family and for the Chiba Lotte Marines, and so I wanted to make this announcement about the decision as soon as possible.

There might not be words to sufficiently express my love and appreciation for the greatest fans in baseball. You moved me to tears when I was met at the airport in January. You amazed me and the entire baseball world with your petition drive. You inspire me and the players every single game with your banners, songs and your relentless passion and commitment to this team. All of it will be part of me forever. I deeply respect the traditions and culture of Japan. And, especially, my love for Japanese baseball will never fade.

Please view this announcement as my determination to make Chiba Lotte Marines baseball fun once again, for our fans and for each member of the team. I have always felt victory was shallow--and true victory was impossible--if the attempt to gain it was not fun. This year has not been fun for anyone who truly loves the Chiba Lotte Marines, so I will make a renewed effort to make this 2009 season the most fun that it can possibly be, and one that we will all remember and cherish for our lifetimes. To help me with this effort and to inspire the team, I would like you, the greatest fans in the world, to cheer for us more than ever.

Letfs play fun baseball again,

Hello all Lotte fans. This is Bobby and we won another Open-sen game today with Nishioka hitting another homerun, and Ono Shingo, Ito, Matsumoto, and Sikorski all pitching very well against the Hawks.

But the news today is not about the game. The news is that I am announcing that I will discontinue this blog until further notice.

The team is playing so well, and the guys are enjoying everything so much that I feel the blog has a chance of being distraction to some of the players and the members of the organization. The last thing in the world I wanted to do is distract anyone during such an important season. Therefore, regretfully, I am going to discontinue this blog until further notice. I thank all the fans who have written to me, and apologize for not answering all of your questions. There are so many unanswered questions as to what has happened thus far and probably what will happen from here on now, but I think it is best in this public forum to keep those questions unanswered, and to just thank everyone, and wish everyone the best of health, the greatest of times. I just wish that everyone can enjoy this baseball season and the Chiba Lotte Marine baseball team. The only thing I wanna do is whatfs best for the team, and what is best for Japanese baseball.

So, to all those at Big Fish Games.com, and especially to Hitomi Wedell and Aya Horner who have serviced this blog for me, as well as all of the stockholders and upper management of Big Fish Games, thank you very much, and all I can say is thank you, and wish you all the best. Sayonara.

Today we played at Yokohama and Shimizu Nao got another turn-up before his Kaimaku-sen (season-opening game) start. He looked outstanding, as did Kawasaki and Ogino pitching in relief.

Our offense was very active today with 3 homeruns – a big homerun by Imae early in the game, and later Takehara and Shinzato hit homeruns. Shinzato was our most improved player in minor leagues last year. He's a catcher in an infielder and loves to play the game. I love to watch him play, because he has great enthusiasm and love for the game. He hit a homerun on his first swing of the game, so that was fun!

It was good to see all the players enjoying themselves today with many hits, including Benny getting another double. Hefs swinging the bat so very well. And Fukuura and Ohmatsu both got hits against left-handed starting pitching (and RBI hits at that). What a very good sign!

Afterwards, Frank, Paul, and I went down to Yokohama. We walked the seaside there and looked at Chinatown and had a great dinner.

I hope you enjoy the photos. Talk to you soon.
(March 8th)

We lost the game in Hiroshima today, but many good things happened, including Karakawa pitching 5 strong innings. He did give up 3 runs, but they were just very unlucky situations, including a broken bat that he had to dodge. He could not cover first in time with a couple of men on and they both scored on a ball that only traveled about 70 feet in the air. His fastball and changeup were very good and his slider was good for few innings. Then he left a few of them up in the strike zone and they got hit. Ohmatsu got a big bases-loaded single to drive in two runs against a left hander, which was a very good sign. It was good to see him doing that. Most players seem to be holding up well. At this time in the spring, they usually start to feel a little fatigue.

I also saw Setoyama-san and Ishikawa-san today. They both looked really good. This new group of three, along with Yoneda-san, seems to be working together pretty well. There haven't been any real problems and Ifm really happy to see that everything seems to be falling into place. Also as the fans were so good to us at all these road games. I appreciate everyone coming out, and so does the team! I just want to continue to remind you that I appreciate your signs and your chants for me, but it is the players that are most important for us to have a successful season. Please continue to support them and back them and make them feel comfortable every time they are on the field.

We have an off-day tomorrow, and then we have our first Open-sen game at Chiba Marine stadium. I hope you enjoy the pictures of Hiroshima. Itfs the last time we're playing at that old Hiroshima stadium. Next time we get there, we'll be playing in their brand-new stadium. Marty Brown, the manager of the Carp, says it's fantastic and that they did a remarkable job. I can't wait to see it! I took some pictures of coach Jeff Livesey, Marty Brown, Frank Ramppen, and myself, along with some shots of the historical dome that was left as reminder of peace. Hopefully we'll have peace in the world and also have peace in our team. I hope you enjoy the photos.
(March 8th)

We're in Hiroshima today after tying a game against the Hanshin Tigers yesterday. Kobayashi Hiroyuki pitched that game extremely well for 5 innings, giving up only 2 hits. His control of his fastball was a little less than it will be when the season begins, but he used all his pitches and showed a lot of poise on the mound. A very good outing for him.

We misplayed a couple of balls in the outfield, but all and all, the veterans Komiyama and Takagi pitched well, as well as Nemoto, Katsuki, and Matsumoto, with Ogino pitching the last inning. He's coming along well. Gary Burnham got a couple more hits, and so did Hayakawa Daisuke, who is playing the game well. Iguchi drove in a couple of big runs in the first inning. He's having a very good spring for us.

It was also the day I got to see Kubo-toshu in a different uniform wearing number 34 for the Hanshin Tigers. I got to meet with him before the game. He seems excited about being in his home area and he expressed regret for not being with us for a championship this year, a repeat time that he was looking forward to. I was also surprised and distressed to find out that he had heard about this trade prior to the time we traded him. He felt that he had lost some of his spirit while pitching for us last year and this spring, and that's regretful.

We wish him the best! And hopefully Hashimoto, the pitcher we got in return, who hasn't pitched yet this season and has had a sore ankle, will come along. Hefs a very big, tall relief pitcher with a good fastball and changeup. He tells me he throws a cutter. Ifm looking forward to seeing him in a uniform at Chiba Marine stadium on the 10th, and also looking forward to getting home!

Our fans have been great on the road! Today is the last game before we get to our home base in Makuhari for the first time this season. The players have been great. Their spirits are terrific and fans have been even better! We have received such great support everywhere we've been. Itfs great to see fans there. I'm a little embarrassed by so much of the "Bobby" chanting. I hope the chanting can turn to our players and give them the power that they need. Obviously, I'm getting plenty of power from everything I hear and see from the best fans in the world!
(March 6th)

Today is a rainy day here in Kobe. So we have no practice, no game. We did win the game yesterday, with Nishioka getting a big hit, Hayakawa a big homerun, and Shimizu Nao pitching extremely well for 5 innings, along with Itoh, Nakagoh, and Sikorski. We have a game against Hanshin tomorrow.

I spent the day walking around Kobe and thought people might like to see what a department store looks like here. The basements of department stores (Depachika) in Japan are absolutely phenomenal. I went into Daimaru, and you can see the first floor with makeup, shoes, and other things that women might shop for... get them in and keep them there! The basement floor is always the most intriguing because itfs the food floor.

Daimarufs food court is absolutely phenomenal. Everything is freshly cooked and freshly prepared – everything from sushi to the most fabulous French pastries, desserts, and chocolates. Sandwiches, pork, and beef are sold at deli counters, and there are tea areas and liquor rooms. Everything you can possibly digest is all on one floor, presented beautifully by beautiful Japanese women for the most part, or young gals and men that are hocking the products. The fruits and vegetables are immaculate. Itfs just a pleasant place to be.
I often have my lunches in one of these places when Ifm in a big city. I like buying different types of food from the food courts on the basement floor of the department store.

I hope youfll enjoy the photos – there are too many to show on one blog, but maybe during the year, others will pop up every now and then. I think seeing the food presentation from this food-oriented culture and society is one of the great experiences people have when they come to Japan.
(March 4th)

Today we left the Nagoya Dome and the Chunichi Dragons, but before we left, we won the game in the 9th inning with clutch RBIs by Gary Burnham and Kobe, once again in the 9th inning. Ogino got the win, Kawasaki got the save. Ono Shingo started and pitched OK. He got a couple of pitches up and gave up some runs. But Nishioka hit a 2-run homer and got a base hit. He is looking like he's warming up to be the kind of player we need him to be this year - and I believe he will be.

We also saw the return of Imae after the tragedy in his family. He was back, getting a walk and a double, and looking very good in the field. He's a special guy to have back in the lineup.

Matsumoto pitched a nice inning, as did Komiyama and Takagi, so it was a good game, a 5-4 win. When we left Nagoya, we traveled over to Osaka (we traveled by "Shinkansen" - Japanese Bullet Train, which we do often). I uploaded photographs of some of the guys on the platform waiting for the Shinkansen, some of the fans on the Shinkansen getting my autograph, and views inside the train, as well as shots of our hotel lobby and of my room. I hope you'll enjoy it and... night game tomorrow! Our first night game will be in Osaka.
(March 3rd)

Wefre here in Nagoya – Nagoya Dome and wefve lost our first Open-sen game today to the Chunichi Dragons.

Ohmine had a lot of strikeouts. He pitched 4 innings but really struggled with his slider and his curveball. His fastball was working very well, and thatfs very good progress, but they hit some of his other pitches. He wasnft quite as sharp as he will be as the season progresses.

We didnft have much offense until late in the game. We had some big g2 outh hits in the 9th inning by Gary Burnham, Watanabe Masa, and Kobe, but it wasnft enough. They beat us 9 – 5.

I also got news tonight that the front office decided to trade Kubo. Kubo has been a very fine pitcher for us since he was in his rookie year. In 2005, he won many games for us, he pitched many very good innings, and he is a wonderful young man. I wish him the best with his new team. Ifve heard that the player we're getting in return, itfs a Hashimoto, who is a relief pitcher. I am told that he has a good fastball.
I was told not to say anything about this trade, so Ifm not going to say anything about it.

I know the fans and players thank Kubo for his great effort and welcome Hashimoto to our team.
(March 1st)

The second Open-sen today was against Rakuten. We had a wonderful pitching performance by young Karakawa, who was perfect. He walked one hitter. He used his new pitches - changeups, fast balls, and sliders, and had great control. He looked like a brand new mature young pitcher out on the mound. I was very proud of him. Kawasaki, Sikorski, and Ogino also did a very good job at pitching.

We won 5 – 2, thanks to the offense of Iguchi starting us off with a double and Ohmatsu hitting a two-run homer and later in the game getting another RBI. We needed him to do that. It was a great game and now wefre off to Nagoya.
(February 28th)

We had a really good first Open-sen game today! It was a terrific performance by all the members of Lotte team. Kobayashi Hiroyuki was our starting pitcher and he was fabulous! He looked like an entirely new man with his confidence. He had different pitches; he was featuring his fastball – it was explosive, and his control was very good. Hopefully wefll see more of the 2009 version of Kobayashi Hiroyuki.

Kubo came and pitched 2 very strong innings, which is a very good sign. I think Kubo is going to have a very good season this year. Ito and Nagago pitched very well out of the bullpen, with Nagago striking out the 3 hitters he faced.

We had Hayakawa igniting the offense, Fukuura getting on base twice, Iguchi getting 2 hits and RBIs, Benny hitting the ball very well, and Gary Burnham getting 2 doubles. Satozaki executed a hit and run perfectly with a base hit to right field. Ohmatsu got a base hit and Saburo swung the bat well, and looked good. Wefre firing on all cylinders. Hopefully, wefll keep the ball rolling!

Even though the press wonft mention the enthusiasm of our fans, even here in Nagasaki, Ifd just like to thank the hundreds of fans who were in the left field stands today, enjoying the game, the weather, and our team. Thanks for coming to Nagasaki.
